The Best Parts
There are many things I could say about the undesirable aspects of winter.
Like how when I went for a run this morning, it was 27 degrees and that was the high for the day, and how the wind took my breath and nearly made me turn and go back home.
There are so many good things about winter, though, that I'm choosing to dwell on instead.
Like bread rising on the counter.
Like making homemade bread several times in the same week.
Like my new stand mixer that does all the kneading while I wash the dishes.
Like roasting vegetables in the oven and warming the house.
Cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes.
Like a big pot of soup on the stove.
Like a little girl loving the soup so much she asks to have it for breakfast the next day.
Like a stack of books waiting to be read.
With a blanket and cup of hot chocolate.
Like having my man home from work for 10 weeks.
Like having him volunteer to go to the library to pick up my holds!
Like my kids running and playing outside in the cold and coming in with rosy cheeks.
What do you love about winter?

I've been trying to focus on the good parts, too! In fact, this morning I went around a took a few pictures of the things that made me smile. (Of course, I also took a photo of the thermostat in the living room that was reading at 59. That did not make me smile. Brrrrr...)
ReplyDeleteWell, with our furnace on the fritz, our thermostat says 51 this morning, but I haven't taken a picture. :-) I'm holed up in a warm room instead!
DeleteI bet your house smells wonderful with all that bread baking! Winter used to be my second favorite season (following fall, of course!) but now I think it has fallen into last place. As I get older, I get so terribly cold. Perhaps if we had a woodstove :-) So let's see... hot baths, less leg-shaving, and hoar frost, That's all I can come up with at the moment!
ReplyDeleteWeight loss makes you feel especially cold, too. Last year after I started running and had lost some weight, I didn't feel warm the entire winter. It was miserable! This year my weight has stayed steady and I guess my body has learned to regulate a little better because I still don't like the winter cold but I'm okay.
DeleteLove the less leg-shaving, Joanne :)
DeleteI'm too OCD to shave less. :-/ It's the same year-round for me.
DeleteI love having soup 2 or 3 times each week. Thankfully, none of my family complains.
ReplyDeleteIn my case, Brian asks me to make more soup. It's great!
