Macie's First Two Weeks

These are some of the sweet memories we enjoyed from
Macie's first two weeks!

And don't miss the full story of Macie's birth, published Friday night.

DAY 1

The kids came to visit us in the hospital about three hours after she was born.

Alaine was thrilled to meet her new sister!

DAY 2

It was a beautiful sunny day and this was the view from our hospital window.

We enjoyed lots of cuddles.  Notice the tiny toes sticking out of the blanket in the photo on the right!

DAY 3

Getting ready to go home!

We had an extra-special welcoming committee at the door!

We were happy to be reunited again as a family-- a family of eight!

DAY 4

The sisters dressed in coordinating stripes.

DAY 5

Macie tried napping in her bed, but it didn't last long.  She still prefers sleeping in arms during the day.

Or on the floor?

Bath time!

DAY 7

Simple pleasures-- napping in the sunshine on Mama's legs!

DAY 8

Sunday morning breakfast...but it's hard to eat when you are holding something so sweet!

We had afternoon visitors and no shortage of volunteers to hold Macie.  Here she is with her Gran.

DAY 9

Macie stayed inside wearing her snowman pajamas while the bigger kids played outside in the snow.

We tried the sling for the first time while Mama cooked a warm lunch on a cold day.

Milk drunk!

There is no shortage of love!

This was Daddy's idea. The kids found it amusing and Macie didn't seem to mind at all.  You can't tell in the photo, but her eyes were open underneath the shades.

DAY 11

I love when Macie is content and still and in a gazing mood.

Gavin likes that, too.

DAY 12

Owen calms Macie by bouncing on the exercise ball.

DAY 13

Macie napped in my arms while the rest of us drank hot chocolate and read a story.

DAY 15

Macie turned two weeks old.  Church was cancelled because of ice and snow so we spent a quiet Sunday at home, playing games and watching football.

Easter Photos: Then and Now

My blog celebrates 7 years in April. When I started blogging, our family was smaller and the kids looked like this:

Easter 2008
Owen (19 months), Maddie (3.5), and Gavin (5)

Some years I've blogged a family photo with all its joyful imperfections-- the frowns, the squints, the looking away, the baskets on the heads (um, yeah) ...

Benjamin (3.5), Owen (5.5), Alaine (19 months, Maddie (7.5), and Gavin (9)

Owen (6.5), Benjamin (4.5), Gavin (10), Maddie (8.5), and Alaine (2.5)

Owen (7.5), Alaine (3.5), Benjamin (5.5), Gavin, (11), and Maddie (9.5)

This year we have noticed great change in some of the kids-- not the average growth that occurs in a  typical year, but a more dramatic change in appearance and maturity.

Easter 2015
Maddie (11.5), Alaine (4.5), Owen (8.5), Benjamin (6.5), and Gavin (12)

Have I mentioned I'll have a teenager before the year is complete?

The Best Parts

There are many things I could say about the undesirable aspects of winter.

Like how when I went for a run this morning, it was 27 degrees and that was the high for the day, and how the wind took my breath and nearly made me turn and go back home.

There are so many good things about winter, though, that I'm choosing to dwell on instead.

Like bread rising on the counter.
Like making homemade bread several times in the same week.
Like my new stand mixer that does all the kneading while I wash the dishes.

Like roasting vegetables in the oven and warming the house.
Cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes.

Like a big pot of soup on the stove.
Like a little girl loving the soup so much she asks to have it for breakfast the next day.

Like a stack of books waiting to be read.
With a blanket and cup of hot chocolate.

Like having my man home from work for 10 weeks.
Like having him volunteer to go to the library to pick up my holds!

Like my kids running and playing outside in the cold and coming in with rosy cheeks.

What do you love about winter?
