Running errands with my kids can stress me out. It's not that they misbehave when they're out (though they sometimes do), but it's the buckling and unbuckling of seat-belts and the endless chatter while I'm searching for an item on my list. And though I love autumn weather, I do not enjoy the return of socks and layers to my kids' wardrobes or zipping coats as we head out the door. It's enough to make me loose my cool.
That's why we've made a fun habit for errand days. Often we stop in at the library on our way home. (I regularly have books on hold to pick up. The librarian told us last time that we are the patrons with the highest checkout!) We pick up a few DVDs while we're and when we get home, I declare it Movie Afternoon! (To eliminate the inevitable arguments, though, I'm in charge of the viewing order.)
